How Often You should Get Chiropractic Adjustments

Published

on

Every year, plenty of people consider going for chiropractic care. But often, most don’t get to experience the full advantages of this form of treatment. Why is that? Because they aren’t sure how often they need to see a chiropractor. At the end of the day, they’ll have fewer sessions than required, which doesn’t help them much. If this sounds like you, or you’ve been contemplating chiropractic adjustments and aren’t sure how many sessions you’ll need, read on for more information.

How Many Chiropractic Visits Are Needed?

The type of injury you have, the care you’re seeking, and your personal goals will determine how many visits you’ll need. But as a general rule, at the beginning of your treatment, you’ll need frequent adjustments. Once the goal becomes maintenance instead of repair, those visits will be reduced. For instance, say you’re seeking chiropractic care for back pain. Your treatment plan may look something like this.

  • During weeks one and two: About 3 to 4 adjustments every week
  • From week 3 to 10: 2 or 3 adjustments every week.
  • From week 10: one session per week for maintenance

This is just an example of the kind of treatment plan you can get. However, a chiropractor can suggest a different treatment plan based on your condition.

How Long Will Each Adjustment Take?

While four sessions in a week may seem like a huge commitment, you’ll be happy to know that these sessions don’t take long. The first session might be longer because a chiropractor like Brad Kern has to examine you first. But after that, your sessions will take about 30 to 45 minutes. And as you keep improving, they’ll be even shorter. It’s common for people to get treatment during short breaks or lunch breaks if the doctor’s office is near.

How Often Does One Need to See a Chiropractor for Maintenance?

Maintenance sessions are quite different than repair sessions. Patients going for chiropractic sessions to maintain their overall health, improve their flexibility, and for their well-being can visit a chiropractor once every two to three months. Be honest with your chiropractor when explaining what you want. In certain cases, you may need three sessions a month for chiropractic maintenance.

Can You Only Have One Adjustment?

Although chiropractors often suggest patients have multiple sessions, most assume that one session will solve their problem. A single session may give you pain relief immediately, but after a couple of days or weeks, the same issue resurfaces. Ongoing sessions don’t just focus on relieving the immediate pain. They also focus on promoting your health moving forward. With multiple sessions, you can prevent a condition from worsening or future injuries.

How Many Sessions Are Too Much?

Because chiropractic care is a safe practice, people can’t say they’ve had too many sessions. It’s not like surgery or prescription drugs where one can say that it’s too much. Chiropractors are trained doctors who will suggest the number of sessions you need based on your needs. For instance, if you’re getting chiropractic care for rheumatoid arthritis, the doctor won’t suggest the same treatment plan as someone trying to address spinal pain.

When considering this type of treatment, communicate with your doctor what you need so that both of you find the right balance. The doctor will examine your condition and give you professional advice Laboratory Supplies.
